Themes Explored: Community & creating space for art; Reinterpreting Latinx culture through a queer lens

Creating space for artists to gather and share ideas is crucial to the survival of creative culture in a city and in a community. Adobe Books & Arts Cooperative is a volunteer-run bookstore and gallery space that allows their members to create and install new art.

Cooperative member and artist Hernán Martinez installed a mural, La Frutería, on the parklet built in front of the store in collaboration with the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District. The murakl explored Pre-Columbian motifs by interpreting the vibrant, fluorescent color palette often seen at Mexican fruit markets.
